Fairly fresh from a jaunt to London for the Private View of 'Quilts 1700-2010'. Big K Fenton's fabulous contribution 'Threaded Wrists' was featured in the 'Make A Living' section. Subject to much discussion her quilt really is a pertinent comment upon the uncomfortable relationship between child labour, sweatshops and the textile industry. The piece show cases Kirsty's wonderful drawing skills - the portraits of children are interpretations of photographs the artist saw on the Unicef website - linear silhouettes of the exploited, lengths of thread trailing like puppet strings begging to be cut. I'm a fan. Think you will be too. (Sorry for the pants photos, they're of the phone variety. Check out Kirsty's dot com for a better idea!)
